Often, in these times, I am going about my day when I realise just how privileged I am to be alive and not suffering. The people of Palestine have been living in devastation for decades (not just since October 7th) and the world continues to turn a blind eye. I often wonder how people can possibly lack so much empathy and humanity that they can willingly continue to support Israel and let Palestinians suffer. In my eyes, people like Benjamin Netanyahu are evil incarnate. How monstrous a person must be to let millions die and suffer and get hurt and be raped and lose loved ones on such an exponential and inhumane scale. The people of Palestine are quite literally living in a dystopia. And the world doesn’t care.
We are lucky to only read stories about suffering, to only learn about the history of genocides. And yet people still don’t seem to understand that we are living while Palestinians are not offered that privilege. How lucky we are, how insignificant our problems are, compared to the hell that Palestinians are forced to live through. Words cannot even being to describe the horror caused by the genocide. Israel is bombing, killing, raping, causing disease, destroying. And Palestinians are screaming in pain but the world won’t hear them.
I personally believe that nobody is born evil. People make the conscious choice to make malicious, monstrous decisions. And people like Netanyahu, or anyone who intentionally enables the genocide, have made the decisions to be the most vile, sinful, evil, hellish, inhumane, murderous, disgusting people possible. How the fuck can people who make such unimaginably horrific decisions in our “developed modern society” even exist? How can the world still do nothing about it?
Palestine must be free and it will be free if we continue to raise awareness, sign petitions, donate to charities, boycott companies funding genocide, protest, and hold Israel and all its war criminals accountable for the destruction of Palestine.

I hear you, Maya - we forget sometimes how fortunate and blessed so many of us are, despite our many complaints about this and that. The pain in our hearts for Palestine can bring us back to reality.
